Dualling the A66

Making the A66 Trans-Pennine route a dual carriageway along its entire length has been a long-term objective.

It's the only way to deal with issues like the notorious Ravensworth junction.

Detailed design work on dualling the remaining single-carriageway sections like this has been completed and, subject to development approval, work on the £1bn project should start in 2024.

Highways chiefs have agreed to make safety improvements to a dangerous junction on the A66 in North Yorkshire. 

Highways England will make the changes to the New Lane junction at Ravensworth after the intervention of MP Rishi Sunak.
