Rishi Sunak presents careers guidance quality award to Dales School

A SCHOOL has shown its quality for helping students with complex needs secure fulfilling careers.

The Dales School, Morton-on-Swale, has been awarded the national Quality and Careers Standard becoming one of only 25 per cent nationally to achieve the coveted status.

Richmond MP Rishi Sunak was on hand to officially present the certificate to students as well as sample another high quality item – the home-made scones – as he also formally opened a shop and new look café at the school, between Northallerton and Bedale.

The Quality and Careers Standard is awarded by national body CSW Investor in Careers for providing careers education, information, advice and guidance to students.

Mr Sunak said: “The right advice is incredibly important to give young people the foundations for a fulfilling working life.

“In order to reach their full potential, and enjoy a fulfilling life, they must be exposed to all the amazing opportunities out there for them.”

Headteacher Ann-Marie Ellis said: “It is wonderful to celebrate this achievement which is testament to the dedication and hard work of staff, collaborating with parents, to ensure that all of our students have access to opportunities to succeed in all aspects of their lives.”

Chairman of governors Paul Chubb is national director of quality in careers but was not involved in the external assessment.

He said assessors had inspected The Dales School against seven key criteria including strength of leadership and management, competence of staff, an underpinning curriculum that explains the options, routes and providers, the county council’s external careers guidance, involvement of employers and parents and evidence from young people of the positive impact on their lives.

He said: “I know Rishi takes a keen interest in this issue and has asked questions on careers guidance in Parliament. We are delighted to have his support which is much appreciated.

“Only one in four of the thousands of secondary schools achieve this coveted standard and it is wonderful to be recognised for the quality of the advice we give our students.”
